Experience

Over his career, Ian has participated in transactions totaling in the $100’s of millions. He has experience working with businesses in many sectors including healthcare, business services, construction services, consumer products, and industrial manufacturing. Ian typically works with family-owned, founder-owned, or management-owned companies with $5 to $50 Million of revenue in sectors that are attractive to institutional investors. The buyers he works with are private equity groups and their existing private equity portfolio companies.

Background

For over twenty-five years Mr. Sassoon has worked in the financial services industry. In 2014 Ian Sassoon founded Sassoon Mergers & Acquisitions, to introduce established business owners directly to individuals from his large network of highly qualified investors. His impressive network has only grown since then and he has established relationships with decision makers at the top private equity groups that are investing in the middle market. Ian has the unique talents of easily connecting with business owners on a personal level, understanding their business and exactly what they are looking for in a potential transaction.
One of Ian’s greatest strengths as an M&A advisor, is to recognize that for the business owner, this will be one of the most important business transactions of their lifetime and it needs to be handled appropriately. He listens attentively and is respectful of time. In addition to his extensive experience and knowledge of M&A, his clients and colleagues have been impressed by his extraordinary patience, his ability to remain calm even during intense negotiations, and how he treats every client like a VIP.

Ian’s professional career began after college, as a real estate broker selling luxury real estate at Brown Harris Stevens in New York City, where he got his first taste of sales. He closed on an impressive number of properties in a few short years including several noteworthy transactions during that time (please ask him about them), before he enrolled in the MBA program at NYU.

The dot com bubble led Ian to Wall Street where he became an options Specialist and market maker on the American Stock Exchange and later on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, until 2010 mortgage crisis, that’s when Ian made the leap from trading stock options to becoming an M&A advisor. With high level experience in sales, financial services and risk management, he accepted a position as an M&A advisor with The Gottesman Company in 2011, where he worked directly with business owners to help them raise growth capital, exit, or partially exit their businesses. He was quickly promoted to Vice President of Sales and in 2014 he began the Sassoon Group, which a few years later became known as Sassoon Mergers & Acquisitions. Ian always had an interest in learning about the “secret sauce” of different businesses, now he gets to know many more businesses extremely well. Ian is a native New Yorker and currently resides in Pomona, NY with his wife Sara and daughter Rivka. Ian’s interests outside of work include philanthropy, community involvement, and enjoying the great outdoors.
